Jean Charles was born in Haiti, immigrated to the United Sates in 1972. Having realized
the American dream in this country he now calls home, a spirit of gratitude and altruism
moves him to improve the life of those he left behind in the island. When Hurricane George
devastated Hispaniola, mostly the Dominican Republic and moved by the destruction left, he
decided that something must be done. With his own funds he founded the J.C. Hispaniola Fund, Inc.
(JCHF) a non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to fighting the poverty and disease that
existed in these countries long before the disaster created by the storm. There is no doubt
Charles is the man for the job. He visits the region regularly and speaks fluently native
languages like Creole, French, Spanish as well as English. As a volunteer, this is an addiction
to him. His conviction, determination, passion, transparency and voracity for results are
unquestionable. He travels personally to the island to supervise the operation of his foundation
and make sure that the donations and supplies are reaching those most in need.
